WOMEN’S TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT DAYS

The next Regional Women’s development and training day will be held on Thursday 11th September 2008 at the Cambridge Professional Development Centre from 10.30am to 4.00pm, with tea/coffee/biscuits from 10.00am.

The topic for this Away Day is the understanding the economy. Do you know what inflation is?; Or CPI?; Do you know why it matters to business and individuals alike?; Do you know what the MPC is?; Do you know the different sectors that make up the economy of the UK?; Do you think we are in a recession?; Do you know what that means?; Does it really matter?

But if you want to find out more then why not come along and take the opportunity to hear the latest economic information, directly from one of the Bank of England's regional team, Janette McCarthy. Janette is Deputy Agent for the South East and East Anglia Agency which is the Bank's eyes and ears in our region. They talk to businesses to discover what is really happening in the economy and advise the Monetary Policy Committee and the Bank's economists. This is a unique opportunity to hear directly how it works and give your views.

This development and training day will be relevant for many women in the region, irrespective of whether they are a steward, branch officer or branch equality officer. If you have ever been involved in creating pay claims or negotiating terms and conditions improvements, this day will be helpful to you. This is a trade union education event, and as such time off work should be allowed for stewards and branch officers.

Women’s Development and Training days are very popular and as places are limited women are urged to apply early. The attached form should be completed and returned by no later than 9th September. There is a £15.00 charge per delegate, this will cover the cost of refreshments, lunch and contribute to the cost of venue and speakers. The Branch will fund up to four places. The Branch will also be responsible for covering the travelling expenses of their delegates to this event. Delegates allocated a place on the day will be sent further information and a map to assist in finding the Cambridge Professional Development Centre.

The Women’s Development and Training Days are an opportunity for women members, stewards and branch officers to learn more about issues affecting UNISON members in a women only supportive environment. They enable women to make contacts throughout the Region and share knowledge and experience. Should you wish to apply for one of the places, please contact me on 01473 584333 or email union@unison.suffolkcc.gov.uk
