How to become a Retired Member:

If you were a UNISON member when you were at work, all you have to do is [on or within two years of your retirement] send a cheque for £15, payable to UNISON, to the Branch Office, with a note of your name and address indicating that you would like to join the Retired Members’ Section. This gives you retired membership for life – no more membership fees to pay.

Meetings and Activities

There are monthly meetings open to all Retired Members, consisting of a brief business section followed by tea and biscuits and an interesting speaker – we cover a wide range of subjects.

The meetings start at 2.30 [unless otherwise notified] and finish by 4.00; they are normally held at the St John’s Club, Kirby Street, Ipswich, where there is ample car-parking space.  Printed agendas are not circulated, for the sake of economy: the short business sections of the meetings follow a standard format as below:

Apologies for non-attendance
Introduction of new members
Correspondence and reports
Forthcoming events
Any other business
Tea and biscuits
Speaker

2007 Notes from Colin and Ralph

We’d like to start off by sending you our best wishes for the new year and trust you will enjoy good health and fortune in a peaceful 2008.

2007 was again a very successful year from our meetings and outings point of view.
Meetings were well supported with an average of 45 members attending, while some outings ran at a loss as we were unable to fill the coach. The most memorable ones were the two visits to Hollesley to see the Suffolk Punch Stud & Museum and our two consecutive Thursday tours of Historic Ipswich.
There was however one very sad event on which we should report:

KEITH DUNNETT

As many of you are aware the former Chair of our Retired Members’ Section died in August last year.
It was agreed subsequently at a meeting of the section that Retired Members of the Branch should be advised that it was the request of Keith’s family that should anyone wish to do so, donations in remembrance of Keith should be made to the Charity “Arthritis Care”.

Should you wish to make a donation in memory of Keith could you please send a cheque made out to “Arthritis Care” to the Retired Members’ Secretary Colin Pettingale by not later than 28th February 2008. Any cheques received will be forwarded to the Charity.
